Why Is Costco’s Rotisserie Chicken So Inexpensive?
When you are short on time and cash, nothing beats a cheap fast meal. But when a tour of the dollar menu won’t do, Costco comes to the rescue. The warehouse giant sells rotisserie chickens for $4.99, which can actually be less expensive than an uncooked one. So why is the price so low?
According to Money, it’s what is known in the industry as a “loss leader”. People looking to pick up one for dinner, might grab a few other items in the store while they’re there.
The magazine also theorizes that Costco will take the chickens that haven’t sold and cook them before they expire, helping keep the profit margins up while also not wasting food.
