Advocates Say Alexa Is Violating Children’s Privacy
Advocates of privacy and child safety are calling on the FTC to investigate Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant and the new kid-friendly Echo Dot speaker.
The calls stem from complaints that Alexa won’t ‘forget’ children’s requests, even after parents try to delete the logs.
They’re accusing Amazon of violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act by hanging on to the data longer than necessary. Critics also say that a large majority of games, quizzes, and other features aimed at children do not post privacy policies, including programs made by third parties and not Amazon itself.
Do you or your kids use Alexa or any other voice assistant?
Amazon’s Alexa won’t forget what children tell it, even after parents try to delete the conversations, privacy advocates say.
