You’re Cooking Hot Dogs Wrong
You’d think cooking a hot dog would be pretty simple.
But according to the professionals who spoke with TODAY Food, people make several common mistakes with their franks. Before slapping them on the grill, check that they’re fully defrosted. Also, a few minutes in simmering water wouldn’t hurt. Even better, try a beer bath. Don’t cut the dogs up first, which can cause them to lose moisture. But if you must, use small slits, which will help them get crispy. You have to get the temp right, and don’t forget to move the wieners around the grill. The bun is important too. Give them a toast for one minute per side. Toss a little butter on for more flavor.
