Middle School Teacher Disarms School Shooter, Consoles Her Until Police Arrive
On May 6th at a middle school in Rigby, Idaho, a sixth-grade student opened fire injuring two students and the school custodian. After getting her class to safety, math teacher Krista Gneiting was tending to one of the injured students when she saw the shooter, a young girl holding a gun. That’s when the middle school teacher disarmed the school shooter.
According to Local 10 she asked the girl, “Are you the shooter?” and then walked closer, putting her hand on the child’s arm and sliding it down to the gun. “I just slowly pulled the gun out of her hand, and she allowed me to. She didn’t give it to me, but she didn’t fight,” Gneiting said. “And then after I got the gun, I just pulled her into a hug because I thought, this little girl has a mom somewhere that doesn’t realize she’s having a breakdown and she’s hurting people.”
The teacher continued to hug the girl until police arrived, who then arrested the girl without further incident. All three who were shot have recovered from their injuries and have been released from the hospital. Here’s Krista on GMA
This middle school teacher disarmed the school shooter before the event could escalate. It’s been 22 years since Columbine and let’s hope we never see anything like that again.
