Alec Baldwin told ABC News in a new interview that he had "no idea" how a live bullet got into a gun on the set of his film, Rust, but that he "didn't pull the trigger" on the gun that killed one person and wounded another.

"I would never point a gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them, never," Baldwin told ABC's George Stephanopoulos. "Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn't even supposed to be on the property."

As we previously reported, there was an accident on October 21 on the set of the film Rust where Baldwin fired a prop gun resulting in the death of Halyna Hutchins, the film’s cinematographer. Joel Souza, the film’s director was also wounded.

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Juan Ríos said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, “According to investigators it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged. Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.”

Baldwin, who was starring in and co-produced the film, talked about what happened on set that fateful day, saying he had no reason to suspect a live bullet could be in the prop gun. He told Stephanopoulos about Hutchins, who was struck in the chest and died after being airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital.

"I think back and I think of what could I have done?" Baldwin said. "She was someone who was loved by everyone who worked with [her] and liked by everyone who worked with [her], and admired... I mean, even now I find it hard to believe that [she's gone]. It doesn't seem real to me."

Yesterday, Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office issued a new search warrant detailing that investigators may have found the source of the live bullet fired by Baldwin on the Rust set.
