Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kit Harrington will reprise his role as the beloved Jon Snow, AKA Aegon Targaryen -- the heir to the Iron Throne. In the series finale, he killed his aunt/lover Daenerys Targaryen and was exiled from Westeros, last seen journeying North of the Wall with the Wildlings.
In theory, the project could open the door for other surviving characters from the Thrones universe to reappear like Stark sisters Arya (Maisie Williams) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).
This development news means there are now seven Game of Thrones projects in the works in addition to the upcoming House of the Dragon prequel series, which debuts August 21. House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events in Game of Thrones, telling the story of a civil war within House Targaryen. HBO’s other live-action prequels in various stages of development are 10,000 Ships (Princess Nymeria), 9 Voyages (aka The Sea Snake) and Dunk and Egg. There are also three animated prequel projects, including The Golden Empire, which is set in the China-inspired land of Yi Ti.
With the final season of Game of Thrones officially halfway done, fans are preparing for the end of a television era.
But while fans will truly miss the show, the cast and crew had a lot to say about how emotional the conclusion of the HBO hit was.
