Ariana Grande Defends Why Her Speaking Voice Changes
Ariana Grande’s latest interview with her “The Boy Is Mine” co-star has fans noticing a drastic change in her usual soft-toned voice. On Penn Badley’s Podcrushed part two episode with the Wicked star, Grande had folks very confused or calling out the authenticity of the voice we usually hear.
During the Tuesday (June 18) episode, Grande starts speaking in a deeper voice. She suddenly becomes aware of it and goes into the higher-pitched tone that we have become used to.
One fan posted the moment on TikTok, and it has since gone viral, with over six million views. The short video has the text: “The voice change?? [sobbing emojis]” written over it. Grande herself saw the clip and felt the need to set the record straight, as fans were flooding the comments with theories.
Ariana Grande Defends Speaking Voice
“habit (speaking like this for two years) and also vocal health 🙂 [green tee emoji],” Grande commented. “i intentionally change my vocal placement (high / low) often depending on how much singing i’m doing [sobbing emoji] i’ve always done this BYE.”
Meanwhile, some fans joked that her Wicked character Glinda, needs to “LET HER GO” and “FREE MY GIRL.” Others found it refreshing, commenting this like, “Her real voice sounds so genuine I love it.” Another person hilariously said, “Me switching to my customer service voice at work.” While another jokingly said, “me accidentally slipping my other personalities around the wrong people.” One fan theorized, “i feel her ‘glinda voice’ is easier on her vocals than her ‘normal voice’ but glinda is also a big part to her.”
As for Grande’s “habit” of speaking in a high voice for two years, the claim runs true. After looking through Ari’s TikTok videos from 2022, her normal speaking voice is prevalent in her videos. Take a look below at an example of her speaking in a lower tone.
Later this year, Grande will star opposite Cynthia Erivo in the film adaptation of the musical Wicked. The first installment of the two-part film is set to open in theaters on November 27th. Watch the trailer below:
