Lee County Sees Record Restaurant Growth With Over 100 New Restaurants Opening in 2024
In an impressive boom, Lee County added more than 100 new restaurants during 2024, beating last year’s total of 80 openings. From cozy family spots to major chains, both Cape Coral and Fort Myers saw new dining spots spring up throughout their neighborhoods.
Cape Coral’s dining scene got a fresh addition when BARunch opened its doors in January. Later, Collados Cuban Cuisine began serving in April. After briefly closing following its owner’s passing, Anthony’s on the BLVD came back to life on Nov. 25.
When Hurricane Ian wiped out its Matlacha location, Hooked Island Grill adapted. They found a new inland spot, launching their second location on March 12. Co-owner Eric Lebsack told News Press, “I’m excited about being closer to home, although we’re not quite back to Matlacha. I feel like there is so much hype surrounding us here. We’re right in the heart of the entertainment district. It’s a great atmosphere, a great vibe.”
Fort Myers was busy as The Capital Grille brought its high-end steaks in June. Sweet options came with Vicky Bakery in December. Meanwhile, Bahn Mi & Tea opened its third spot in November, and Bay Street Yard introduced a new spin on city dining in May.
After being closed for two years due to storm damage, The Island’s Pancake House fired up its grills again Aug. 30. In a pleasant surprise, Nevermind bar came back to its original spot in April.
But not every business made it. Bimini Bites opened in January but closed by summer. Still, new places kept coming — Cuban’s Coco Loco added flavor in November, Foxtail Coffee Co. opened in December, and The Goombah started serving pizza behind the Cape Coral Elks Lodge.
