Yesterday brought some brutal weather to the Hatteras Seashore and Outer banks area of North Carolina. 16 foot waves and powerful winds brought down not just one – but TWO houses, collapsing into the Atlantic. They could see it coming, as the Cape Hatteras National Seashore page was recording video at the exact moment the houses collapsed. The houses were vacant at the time, but as you’ll see in the videos, there’s a lot of other houses just as close to the shore as the ones that fell.
NPS stated: “Unfortunately, there may be more houses that collapse onto Seashore beaches in the near future,” said David Hallac, superintendent, National Parks of Eastern North Carolina. “We proactively reached out to homeowners along Ocean Drive in Rodanthe after the first house collapse and recommended that actions be taken to prevent collapse and impacts to Cape Hatteras National Seashore.”
