It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… NOPE! It’s a Space Station!
Right now, NASA is watching Tiangong-1, a dying 8.5 ton space station that could crash into unknown spots on this planet. Chinese officials released a report earlier this year, to the United Nations stating that the Tiangong-1 had ceased operating in March of 2016. They’re guesstimating that the station will make a fiery reentry into the atmosphere anytime between October 2017 and April 2018.
Ever wonder where or what they do with all those old satellites? Did you know there is a spacecraft graveyard in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?
It’s called Point Nemo (Latin for ‘no one’), they say it’s the most remote location on Earth. It’s about 1,450 nautical miles away from land. Making it the perfect place to dump dead or dying spacecraft, which is why it’s home to what NASA calls its “spacecraft cemetery.”
