Team USA currently ranks first in the overall medal count with 64 total, and ranks second behind China for the most gold medals with 20 as of 12 p.m. Monday.
Florida athletes have contributed to nine of those U.S. gold medals so far, according to WTSP. Which means that the sunshine state actually ranks seventh overall in gold medals, beating out dozens of countries.
Some of those outstanding Florida natives include Team USA swimmers Bobby Finke and Caeleb Dressel.
Finke set an American record in the 800-meter freestyle twice at the Tokyo Olympics — once in the prelims and again in the finals when he won the gold medal.
Anastasija Zolotic from Largo also won the United States’ first gold medal in women’s taekwondo.
The Olympics aren’t over yet, so we could see even more chances to add to the gold count!!
Go team USA!
