Since Grimes' recent split from Elon Musk, whom she was together with for three years and shares a son with, she's become fed up with all the press surrounding her personal life.

The 33-year-old musician is combating that with a new song titled, “Love,” which she shared today  on her Instagram.

She wrote, “I wrote and produced this song this week in response to all the privacy invasion, bad press, online hate and harassment by paparazzis I’ve experienced this week."

The track is in classic Grimes style, with ethereal vocals and an out-of-this-world look. The lyrics she shared in her caption are quite sad though: "It f---ing sucks to be awake / Oh Lord I pray my soul to take / nobody understands because / everything they hate / is everything I love"

The SpaceX founder said that there is no bad blood between him and the singer, and they are still co-parenting their son X Æ A-Xii Musk together. “We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently, and are on great terms,” Musk said.

He explained that his constant traveling has kept them apart. “It’s mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in L.A. She’s staying with me now and Baby X is in the adjacent room.”

Grimes and Musk began dating in 2018 and gave birth to their son in May 2020. They attended the 2021 Met Gala together, though Grimes walked the red carpet alone, with Musk joining her inside the event. At the gala, Grimes spoke to Vogue about how her life has changed after having a child: “I think having a baby was a big kind of like rebirth for me, like artistically. Like, it just like, I don’t know.”
