Taylor Swift Loved Ryan Gosling’s ‘All Too Well’
Ryan Gosling and Saturday Night Live know all too well how obsessed fans are with Taylor Swift. During Gosling’s hosting duties over the weekend, he made a big impression with Swift, who caught his opening monologue and parody of her song and short film, “All Too Well.”
In the opening sketch, Gosling crooned about his success playing Ken in 2023’s Barbie, set to the tune of “All Too Well.” Unable to let go of his Ken character, Gosling admitted to the crowd that despite his “breakup” with Ken, he’s got to talk about it at least a little bit. Giving more reasons to the excited crowd, Gosling adds, “When you play a character that hard, that long, it’s just — letting go feels like a breakup.”
Healing Through Music
There’s really only way Gosling, 43, can process a breakup: via the music of Taylor Swift! Gosling, who was in the Mickey Mouse Club and is a musician, sat at the piano and threw on some dark sunglasses. Wasting no time, he sings: “I shredded Venice Beach it’s true. My clothes were tight, but something about that spandex felt so right. I left my rollerblades in that big pink house, but I still got that fur coat and I’ll wear it right now.”
Now wearing the white fur coat from the summer blockbuster film, Gosling reclaims center stage and sings about the “Sweet definition” of his washboard abs and singing to Indigo Girls with Margot Robbie’s “Babs” (Barbie) in the car. “If I said that I was doing fine, you know I’d be lying. ‘Cause I was just Ken, and now I’m just Ryan!”
Ryan and Emily’s Version of “All Too Well”
His The Fall Guy co-star Emily Blunt interrupted the sketch at this point, as Gosling’s whole performance is carried away by his break-up with Ken. Blunt, 41, comes to the stage a few times to remind him that he is supposed to be promoting their upcoming action comedy — not continuing his song about Ken and embarrassing himself. Trying to continue with their Fall Guy planned monologue, Blunt smashes a glass bottle of Ryan’s head and a chair across his back to get him to snap out of it.
Gosling asks her if she ever misses Oppenheimer. Caving, Blunt sings to the tune of Swift’s song: “‘Fore he ripped the atom bomb, and a bottle of Jack! I used to be the alcoholic wife of a dude in a hat.” The duo began harmonizing together and sang about their “Barbenheimer summer” as the stage began to transform with props from both of their films.
Taylor Swift Loved Ryan and Emily’s Version
“All Too Well (Ryan and Emily’s Version) !!! Watch me accidentally catch myself singing this version on tour. This monologue is EVERYTHING [heart hands emojis, clapping hand emojis],” wrote Swift of the duo’s parody on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, April 14.
Gosling and Blunt’s The Fall Guy releases on Friday, May 3rd. Watch the trailer below:
