Many streaming platforms have increased their prices. Now, subscribing to Peacock is getting more expensive. The company announced this week that subscription prices will increase soon for both new and existing subscribers.

The Verge reported that Peacock will increase the subscription for each of its plans by $2. Right now, the streaming platform offers an ad-supported plan that costs $5.99 per month. The Premium Plus plan costs $11.99 per month.

Peacock: New Prices

Here's what to expect when it comes to new prices for Peacock subscriptions. Peacock Premium will be $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. Peacock Premium Plus will not be $13.99 per month or $139.99 per year.

In 2020 Peacock was launched. Last year, it had its first price increase. The Premium subscription went from $4.99 to $5.99 per month. Meanwhile, the Premium Plus plan cost $9.99 per month before the increase to $11.99. The streaming platform discontinued its free plan and stopped bundling Peacock Premium for free for Comcast's Xfinity customers at around the same time.

9To5Mac reported that Comcast recently revealed that the streaming platform has gained 3 million paid subscribers in recent months, bringing its total to 34 million. The platform features content from NBCUniversal, including movies, news, series, and sports.

The new prices come into effect on July 18 for new customers, while current subscribers will pay the new prices starting August 17.

What’s streaming on Peacock?

Some people speculate that the price hike is due to its upcoming streaming plans. it plans to stream the Olympic Games in Paris, which kicks off on July 26th. The streamer also recently added movies like Oppenheimer to its slate and held an NFL Wild Card game in January that it says was the “most streamed event ever in the US.” It will also stream an exclusive NFL game in São Paulo, Brazil, on September 6th.

Recently, NBC announced its 2024-2025 schedule. The network renewed Chicago Fire, Med, and PD, Law & Order, and Law & Order Special Victims Unit. However, Law & Order: Organized Crime is moving from NBC to Peacock.

Peacock originals include series like Apples Never Fall, Poker Face, Bel-Air, Based on a True Story, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, and Twisted Metal.

Interestingly, Peacock has yet to crack down on password sharing like other platforms. Earlier this year, both HBO and Disney+ announced their plans to follow Netflix in preventing users from sharing their accounts with others.
