A Christmas Carol Opens In Fort Myers
Holiday activities are in full swing in Southwest Florida. There are tree lightings, holiday strolls and lots of musical productions. A Christmas Carol opens in Fort Myers at Broadway Palm Dinner Theater and here is a review. The theater invites media representatives to attend opening night and I was there Friday when the curtain went up.
First, A Christmas Carol is a holiday classic. Written by Charles Dickens and published in 1843, it is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge mistreats his longtime, loyal employee whose son, Tiny Tim, is suffering from an illness.
Scrooge is visited by three ghosts throughout the course of Christmas Eve. They each show him glimpses of his life and Christmas past, present and future. Those visions transform him from a callous curmudgeon into a benevolent man, grateful for a second chance.
A Christmas Carol Opens In Fort Myers
A Christmas Carol was first made into a movie in 1938 and there have been numerous adaptations. The stage show at Broadway Palm is set to music. There are some campy parts that make you laugh along with many poignant moments about what is important in life.
The actors sing, dance and make seamless scene changes. I did not know any of the songs but the story was true to the script and the actor playing scrooge did a particularly good job. The cast included some talented kids as well.
The show hit all of the marks when it comes to talent, story line and presentation. It makes for a great night out if you have family in town for the holidays.
