Lee Health Plans To Sell Hospital for Mixed-Use Development
Workers have started building a roundabout near the current hospital. It’s the first step in preparing for the area’s future traffic needs.
“Some other things they talked about was housing, retail, possible government buildings. We kicked around the, the thought of, maybe moving city hall over there,” Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson told NBC 2, supporting the planned changes.
But not all residents are happy. Andre Hustle is worried about how far people will have to drive for routine medical care after the move.
In an interview with NBC 2, Hustle said, “Definitely not happy about that. For the simple fact that there is a lot of people in this area that utilize this hospital for more than trauma situations, regular medications and stuff like that. People are out here every day.”
The city still needs to approve the final plans. They’re carefully reviewing the number of housing units and what types of businesses can move in.
