Restaurant Open For 30 Years On Fort Myers Beach Set To Close Next Month
A very popular restaurant open for 30 years on Fort Myers Beach is set to close next month.
Over the last few years, sadly, we’ve been seeing a lot of restaurants closing, some that have only been open a few years. And while many new ones are opening, it’s always sad, especially if it’s a favorite. Looking at what the country has gone through over the last 5 years with the pandemic and inflation, it’s been more difficult to stay in business. But to hear of a restaurant that’s been open for 30 years is impressive. Unfortunately, this restaurant’s life on Fort Myers Beach is coming to an end next week.
Restaurant Open For 30 Years On Fort Myers Beach Set To Close Next Month
Bonita Bill’s on Fort Myers Beach has been a favorite of mine ever since the first time I went. It was always a spot to stop at on the way to a beach day. They also have one of the best fish sandwiches I’ve ever had so it made for a great lunch too. To be able to sit on the water and watch the boats go by just made for the perfect Florida setting. Sadly, owner Bill Semmer passed away earlier this year and the restaurant went up for sale. After being in business for 30 years under the Matanzas Pass bridge, the restaurant will be closing on January 5.
The restaurant has meant a lot of things to a lot of people. One man even told NBC2 that it’s been such a huge part of his life, being a regular for almost 10 years, he wishes to one day have his ashes spread there.
It’s always a shame to see such an iconic place come to an end, but the good news is that you still have a week to get there to check it out, maybe for the first time, or for one last time. I know I’ll be stopping in for my fish sandwich this weekend.
On Bonita Bill’s Facebook page, the restaurant says they’ll be open “regular operating hours; closed on Mondays. Tuesday-Friday 11am-9:30pm-ish (lunch/dinner only), and Saturday & Sunday from 8am to 9:30pm-ish. We will be open NYE (regular hours).”
