5 Reasons You Should Eat a Plant-Based Diet, According to Scientists
If you haven’t jumped on the plant-based diet train yet scientists are giving you 5 reasons why you should.
First, it decreases the chances of type 2 diabetes. Secondly, it can help you lose weight. Researchers found that people who ate a plant-based diet lost more weight than those who ate both plant and animal-based foods, even though the plant-based eaters ate more carbs. Third, eating a plant-based diet can lower the risk of prostate and breast cancers, because plants have compounds called, flavonoids, and phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) which can slow down the progression of cancer and lower the risk of getting aggressive prostate cancer. The fourth reason scientists think a plant-based diet is better is it’s cholesterol lowering effects. Substituting animal protein for plant-based protein lowers cholesterol levels. Finally, according to the researchers at the University of Southern California middle-aged people who eat mainly animal protein are twice as likely to die and four times as likely to die of cancer.
