Japan Has A Train Dedicated To Pokemon
If this past year has taught us anything, it is that Pokemon is timeless. Adding to the Poke-craze is Japan’s latest mode of transportation.
The JR East railway company has created a train based off of Ash Ketchum’s favorite Pokemon, Pikachu. The Pokemon Company collaborated with the train company in order to develop the design.
According to Rocket News 24, the collaboration was to help the kids who were affected by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Previous to this strictly Pikachu train, there was an earlier Pokemon train. The 2012 edition helped the disaster relief project as well as started the movement for Pokeman trains.

The original trains were able to carry around “46 passengers” and had around “100 Pokemon designs” on the outside of the train says Rocket News 24. It seems as though this new Pikachu train will be following in the same passenger limit.

JR East released a concept photo of what customers can expect from this themed train. The exterior of the train will be, of course, yellow. On either side of the train are red circles to mimic Pikachu’s rosy cheeks. Throughout the body of the train, there are collages of the cartoon creature.
Inside, the color scheme is rather consistent. The train’s seats have yellow and brown outlines of the electric creature as well as a series of different Pokeballs. Mashable reports that “the company aims to have the train’s yellow and brown bench seats facing each other, in the hopes that families sit with each other during the ride.”
In one of the carts, there is a play area where children can play with…yeah, you guessed it, Pikachu. The company hopes the have the Pikachu train running from the Ofunato Line from Ichinoseki station to Kensennuma station on July 15th.
