Bruno Mars surprised fans last night when he tweeted that he and Anderson .Paak have formed a band called Silk Sonic, and they have a song due out next week. Additionally, legendary funk bassist Bootsy Collins is the “special guest host” on the album.

“We locked in and made an album. The band’s called Silk Sonic. First song drops next Friday 3/5.”

Fans on Twitter — including Missy Elliott — were quick to react, and they do so pretty enthusiastically:

Mars has at least one other high profile project in the works: last year, Rolling Stone  reported that Mars is working with Disney on a music film which he will co-produce and star in; the name of the film has not been announced yet. Rolling Stone reported that the project will be a “music-themed theatrical narrative feature.” This will be Mars’ first major film role; he previously voiced a character in the animated Rio 2 from 2014 and portrayed an Elvis impersonator in 1992’s Honeymoon in Vegas.
