Facebook Will Delete Hateful Comments Made On Lizzo’s Page
Facebook will scrub hateful comments left on Lizzo’s Facebook and Instagram pages, after the singer vented on social media earlier this week about receiving fatphobic and racist remarks.
Per Daily Mail, sources with the social network (which owns Instagram) say toxic comments made by trolls have been removed; the comments came after the release of Lizzo’s new song “Rumors” with Cardi B.
Reps for the social networking company revealed their plans two days after Lizzo broke down in tears on Instagram Live over the weekend (August 15) because of online bullies being fatphobic, racist and accusing her of catering to white audiences.
The singer said while crying, “Sometimes I feel like the world just don’t love me back. It’s like it doesn’t matter how much positive energy you put into the world, you’re still gonna have people who have something mean to say about you.”
“People are saying s— about me that doesn’t even make sense. It’s fatphobic, it’s racist and it’s hurtful. If you don’t like my music cool, if you don’t like ‘Rumors’ the song, cool but a lot of people don’t like me because of the way I look.”
“Rumors” collaborator Cardi B defended Lizzo writing on Twitter, “When you stand up for yourself they claim your problematic & sensitive. When you don’t they tear you apart until you crying like this. Whether you skinny, big, plastic, they going to always try to put their insecurities on you. Remember these are nerds looking at the popular table.”
