Mistaken Identity Lands Florida Man In Jail For Five Days
Not that I’ve been there, but I imagine jail isn’t a place you yearn to spend any time in, and in this case a Florida man spent five days in jail due to mistaken identity.
26-year-old Leonardo Silva Oliveira is a cook in Deerfield Beach and has never had any trouble with the law. But Oliveria spent five days in the Broward County Jail after having the same name and identical looks as a fugitive, despite their birth dates and tattoos not matching up.
Oliveira told the South Florida Sun Sentinel, “They checked my arms. They didn’t see any. But they still took me in.”
Eventually, fingerprints proved the two men to be different people and Oliveira was released.
The fugitive is still out there and wanted on a probation violation.
