A Supermoon is when a full moon occurs during the time when the moon is closest to the earth. And we’ll be seeing that in Florida as it happens twice in the month of August. The second one will also be a Blue Moon, which means that a full moon happens twice in the same month.
The first Supermoon of August peaks this Tuesday afternoon around 2:30pm.
Providing the clouds have cleared, you’ll be able to see it brightly after sunset when you look to the southeast.
The second, which will be the Blue Moon Supermoon happens at 9:36 pm on August 30th. That will be our brightest full moon this year.
Another interesting happening this month is the Perseid Meteor Shower. That’s coming on August 13th, which will be a near moonless night. If you can find a spot away from the city lights it should be a good show.
Saturn also shines this month. You’ll be able to spot the planet on August 3rd and on August 27th. With a telescope you’ll be able to see the rings.
