Kelly Clarkson On Taylor Swift NFL Takeover
Kelly Clarkson attends NBC's "American Song Contest" Week 3 Red Carpet at Universal Studios Hollywood on April 04, 2022 in Universal City, California. Taylor Swift looks on before the game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on October 12, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri.
As a football fan, Kelly Clarkson is so “over” the NFL spotlighting Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s budding romance. While Saturday Night Live cast member Bowen Yang appeared on her talk show Thursday (October 19), the two discussed how shocked they were at the “Swelce” surprise SNL appearance last weekend.
The comedian, 32, discussed with the “Stronger” singer, 41, how the new couple’s takeover of the NFL spotlight is a little jarring. “I heard, too, recently — I didn’t get to see, but I’ve everybody talking about it… When Taylor surprised, and Kelce was on there as well [on SNL],” Clarkson said. “Because that’s hilarious how commentators [talk about it]. What’s not hilarious is how it is literally taking over the NFL for people that like watching sports now!” As she motioned to herself, a Dallas Cowboys fan, she said the discussion of Swelce’s relationship feels like “you’re watching the [Real] Housewives]. They’re just talking about gossip things — so what about the play? Because they’re taking over!”
As Yang agreed with her, Clarkson gave kudos to the sketch comedy show for touching on it “right then, and it’s so awesome that it’s live.” Yang added, “It was so wild! We didn’t expect them to come.” When he saw Swift, 33, and Kelce, 34 at the NBC page desk, he was like, “Oh, there’s two of the tallest people I’ve ever seen.” Swift is 5’11” and Kelce is 6’5″, to which Yang described them as trees in the redwood forest. Once he realized who they were, he gushed, “Wow, it’s them!”
In the Season 49 premiere, the Kansas City Chiefs star appeared on a parody of Fox’s NFL Sunday panel that discussed the chaos over his ongoing relationship with the “Anti-Hero” singer. The skit teased NFL’s obsession with talking about Swift and Kelce. Swift also introduced musical guest Ice Spice later in the episode.
A source told the New York Post that Kelce’s appearance was a complete surprise. They told the publication, “He and Taylor showed up right before we started.” Following the sketch comedy show, Swelce hit up SNL’s after-party at Catch Steak in New York City, where they packed on the PDA. An insider told Page Six, “Travis and Taylor seemed to really be enjoying the night, and each other, even kissing throughout the night.” Kelce “had his hands around the singer’s waist throughout the night.”
Taylor Swift And Travis Kelce Make Surprise Appearances On 'SNL'
It really happened! Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce hold hands after making a surprise appearance on SNL! It’s what some call a “hard launch” of their relationship. Taylor has been at 3 Kansas City Chiefs games. She went to the first one against the Bears in Arrowhead, then went to the Chiefs/Jets game when they played at Met Life Stadium, and then she was at the Thursday night game when the Chiefs played the Broncos this past week.
It was a whirlwind week for Taylor, as her Eras Tour Movie, Taylor Swift: The Ears Tour Movie was released. Taylor was in LA for the Eras Tour Movie premiere on Wednesday, and then she flew right to Kansas City Thursday morning for Travis’ game on Thursday night.
It was then reported that Taylor and Travis flew on her jet to NYC on Saturday morning, as Travis had almost ten days between games. Travis’ cameo was first. He was in a skit parodying Fox NFL Sunday, and the obsession with the Kelce/Taylor romance. Kenan Thompson played Curt Menefee, with Mikey Day played Howie Long, James Austin Johnson played Jimmy Johnson, Devon Walker played Michael Strahan and Molly Kearney played Terry Bradshaw. Later, Taylor showed up to introduce Ice Spice, who was the musical guest and a friend of Taylor’s. They did the “Karma” remix together that Taylor released a few months ago.
It’s reported that they went to dinner in NYC at NOBU first, then they did SNL, then attended the SNL afterparty together.
Their timeline seemed to start when Taylor Swift brought The Eras Tour to Arrowhead in Kansas City, Travis revealed on his New Heights podcast that he went to the show and that he made her a friendship bracelet with this phone number. He wanted to give it to her, but unfortunately, they didn’t meet. Eventually, though, they obviously connected.
