Olivia Rodrigo On The Art of Swearing
Olivia Rodrigo attends the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards at Prudential Center on September 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey.
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday (October 24) night, Olivia Rodrigo discussed her family’s reaction to her fame, what she should name her next album, and toning down the lyrics to some of her songs. The “vampire” singer, 20, told host Kimmel that her dad “brags to his co-workers” about the singer-songwriter’s success, while her mom is “modest,” shy,” and “very coy” when asked about her daughter.
When it comes to writing songs and whether to insert swear words, “I think about it often,” the former Disney channel star explains. “I love using a swear word when I think it’s tasteful and necessary.” When penning some of the Guts tracks, the Grammy-winner found herself “swearing all over them” and had to “pare it back.” For example, in “get him back!” her lyrics are: “‘Cause I miss the way he kisses and the way he made me laugh.” She revealed the original version was: “‘Cause I miss the way he kisses and the way he grabbed my a–.” With “all-american bitch,” the lyrics “I’m a perfect all-American bitch with perfect all-American lips and perfect all-American hips” were something completely different. Olivia initially had perfect all-American lips and perfect all-American t–s.”
Olivia kept curses off songs like “ballad of a homeschooled girl,” which she performed during her Monday appearance. As Kimmel made a hilarious joke about her album names making it sound like you need a Tums, she said she liked her albums to follow a four-letter-word theme. Though she doesn’t have her next album’s title “locked and loaded” yet, she asked the late-night host if he had any ideas. In a dry tone, Kimmel goes, “What about lamp? Everybody loves lamp.” He hilariously references Steve Carrell’s character in Anchorman, who says “I love lamp” to try to fit in with the group by expressing his love for something.
Not sure if Rodrigo got the reference to the 2013 film, but she burst out in laughter to Kimmel’s suggestion. He adds it could be a whole light theme. His next album title suggestion is “narc.” Explaining that Olivia could be working with the cops and “we don’t know about it,” he is two for two with the creative names. Rodrigo then reveals how in her final song of GUTS, “teenage american dream,” you can hear her producer guess that the next album title will be fart.

Per Statista, in 2023, over 4.89 billion people were using social media worldwide, a number projected to increase to almost six billion in 2027. These users aren’t tied to a single platform. The average user now spreads their digital footprint across six to seven platforms every month, according to Forbes.
The average individual has about eight social media accounts. In the United States, the average person has seven accounts. In India the number is nearly twelve, while in Japan it nears four. On a global level, the average person spends about 145 minutes on social media. Americans average about two hours and seven minutes daily. To put this into perspective, if the average person maintained this usage over an average life span of 73 years, the end result is an astonishing 5.7 years spent on social media platforms.
As we previously reported, studies have shown time and again that social media has been linked to brain development changes in teenagers. Even the Surgeon General issued a warning of social media’s “profound risk of harm to the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents.” Despite the possible negative effects of social media, which comes with anything used in excess, celebrities entertain their millions of followers. Whether they are plugging a new project they are working on or just being charismatic, these ten celebrities are the most popular online in 2023.
