Jenna Ortega Reveals ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Will Hardly Use CGI
Jenna Ortega attends the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards at Peacock Theater on January 15, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.
It looks as though Beetlejuice 2 will be using practical effects, much like its 1988 original. Starring in the sequel, Jenna Ortega revealed to ET on Wednesday (January 17) that the Tim Burton-helmed project is “visually so exciting.” She told the publication, “Everything was practical. I think we’re not using very much CGI or something like that at all.” Just like her co-star and star of the original, Michael Keaton, Ortega, echoed his sentiments stating that it has been “some of the most fun I’ve ever had on a set.”
Everything We Know About the Sequel
As we previously reported, Keaton, who stars as the mischievous “bio-exorcist,” told Empire last June that playing the titular character is “the most f—in’ fun you can have working.” Keaton, 72, added at the time that they have been treating the project “exactly like we did the first movie.” The upcoming sequel, which has a release date of September 6 this year, will also see Winona Ryder starring as Lydia Deetz and Catherine O’Hara as her mother, Delia Deetz once again. Though there is no trailer yet, details of the new cast have also been revealed with Ortega playing the role of Lydia’s daughter, Monica Bellucci as Beetlejuice’s wife, Willem Dafoe as an afterlife law enforcement officer, and Justin Theroux in an undisclosed role.
Per Collider, the sequel began production last May in the UK. As a result of the WGA strike and subsequent SAG-AFTRA strike, filming was paused just two days from completion. After the strikes ended a few months later, production on Beetlejuice 2 wrapped filming as of the end of November. With plot details of the sequel under wraps still, we last left off on the original with Beetlejuice being nine millionth in line for an appointment in the afterlife, getting his head shrunk by the ghost next to him.

Elton John became an EGOT as Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium won Outstanding Variety Special (live).
Like all awards shows, the winners and losers in their respective categories are only half the allure. The rest of us take a look at who looks good on the red carpet and who looks like they should go back home. Take a look below at the five worst looks of the night:
