Budman’s Top Halloween Breakfast Cereals of 2021

It’s almost Halloween! Some people say that they love the Halloween season  for the candy, the costumes or the scary decorations.

While those things are great, for me it’s about the Halloween themed breakfast cereals. There’s nothing better than a balanced breakfast that’s all scary and boo.

Every year there seems to be more on store shelves too! So here are some of my personal frightening favorites this season…

• Halloween Crunch

  This one is a terrifying twist on one of my breakfast favorites. Who doesn't want a little Cap'n in ya?! Halloween crunch tastes like the classic Cap'n Crunch, but turns your milk green! I'm still waiting on some Luke Skywalker cereal that turns my milk blue. Just saying..

• Kellogs Chocolate Frosted Flakes

  You want to know what's grrreat? Cereal marshmallows. Frosted Flakes came correct this Halloween season by combining chocolate AND marshmallows. Throw in some scary shapes like bats, ghosts and monsters and you got yourself a Halloween cereal... Or type 2 diabetes.

• Froot Loops

  I see what you did there, Kellogg's. You took those fun Halloween shaped marshmallows you had in your Frosted Flakes and also put them in your Fruit Loops Cereal. I'm not mad though. You put marshmallows in anything and it makes it instantly better. In fact, I'm just gonna start adding them to my vegetables from now on.
• Reese’s Puffs Bats

  My favorite Halloween candy is Reese's. I always tell my daughter that something doesn't look right about the Reese's in her Halloween bag. "I think a witch put that in your bag. I wouldn't eat that if I were you." I then dispose of them by hiding them in my sock drawer. I plan on telling her that the Reese's Puffs with fun Halloween shapes are made with rabbit poop. Don't worry, I'll take care of this box too.

• Count Chocula

  All hail the King of Halloween breakfast cereals! The mighty Count Chocula! This might be the greatest chocolate cereal out there. My kid goes more coo coo than Cocoa Puffs for the Count. If I even look at her box of Count Chocula, she turns into a raging chocolate demon. Who can blame her? The Count has been making kids batty over his cereal since 1971. It's so good that it's only found in stores at Halloween time.

• Franken berry and Boo Berry

  If we are going to talk about Count Chocula, then we can't forget to mention his monster friends. Franken Berry and Boo Berry. I love that big pink Frankenstein. His Strawberry and marshmallow cereal brought me so much joy as a kid. I thought no one could ever come between us... Until I met Boo Berry. Damn. Blueberry flavored cereal? Have you ever heard of such a thing? The secret was out and so was that big pink Frankenstein. Replaced by a translucent blueberry marshmallow pusher. He had the good stuff, and I was hooked. While Count Chocula and Franken Berry argued about whose cereal was better, I was posted up in front of my TV with a box of Boo Berry.

And surely nothing could be better than this… Finally, we have this year’s top spot for Halloween breakfast cereals.

• Monster Mash

  Finally, we have this year’s top spot for Halloween breakfast cereals. Please welcome, Monster Mash. Monster Mash is a mashup of all of your favorite monster marshmallow cereals. All in one box! Count Chocula, Franken Berry, Boo Berry, and some long forgotten favorites too. What? Other monster flavors? Yes. Fruit Brute and Yummy Mummy. These two flavors I never even heard of as a kid. Did I miss them? How could I have been deprived of these guys? Fruit Brute made his debut in 1974, but was discontinued by 1982 and replaced in 1988 by Fruity Yummy Mummy. He didn't stick around long either. The Fruity Mummy was gone by 1992. But don't shed any sugary tears because the band is back together. Monster Mash is in stores now!

Now if you excuse me my blood sugar levels are looking a little scary. Happy Halloween!!
