Sanibel Waiving Tolls The Next Six Sundays To Encourage Support Of Local Businesses
Sanibel is starting to bounce back after Hurricane Ian and to encourage support of local businesses the island will be waiving tolls for the next six Sundays.
Sanibel is one of my favorite places. I live right on the other side of the bridge in Fort Myers, so the drive across the causeway is convenient and beautiful. It’s nearly every weekend that I go to enjoy one of the many beautiful beaches on the island. Both Sanibel and Captiva suffered great damage from Hurricane Ian, but things are really coming along as far as businesses beginning to reopen and they need our support.
There 25 restaurants now open on Sanibel and Captiva islands, but without people there to enjoy them, I’m sure the fear is that they won’t be able to stay open. And for people in Fort Myers and Cape Coral, even though the drive isn’t far, it could be the $6 toll that’s holding people back from spending time on the island.
Sanibel is waiving tolls for the next six Sundays
NBC2 reports that tolls on the Sanibel Causeway will be waived starting this Sunday and through September 10 in the “Savor the Shore” campaign. Whether you want a nice Italian dinner, lunch with a view or maybe to enjoy some time in nature with a kayak rental, this is a way to save money on the toll and spend it supporting local island businesses.
