Florida: Did You Know We Have A Town Named After Food?
Quite often we find local restaurants with a menu item that honors a historical person or moment in that area’s history. However Daily Passport recently detailed six towns across America that have names referencing food. One of them is right here in Florida and goes by the name of Two Egg.
“A select few small towns in the U.S. drew inspiration from a much different source and were named after food,” they said.
Let’s Take A Ride To Two Egg, Florida
Located approximately 330 miles southeast of Hot Coffee, Mississippi, Two Egg, Florida is located in Jackson County. It’s in the northern region, about an hour outside of Tallahassee. Furthermore, it’s just 12 miles from the Alabama border.
The story behind this funny name allegedly refers to the Great Depression. Trading goods within the town became common and even selling them to outsiders became a practice to get by.
“As the story goes, two young boys used to come into the general store with two eggs to trade for sugar; they did it so often, in fact, that the store became known as the “two egg store,” Daily Passport explains.
Furthermore, Two Egg, Florida, is an unincorporated community. This means the town is not governed by a local municipality. “Two Egg is now mainly known for its name, its quirky annual events, supernatural lore and its claim to fame as the childhood home of Oscar-winning actress Faye Dunaway,” Visit Florida states.
Naturally, you might now be wondering about restaurants in or near Two Egg that represent the name. Yelp has published a guide of things you need to do when visiting the Two Egg area. The top restaurant choice Johnny Mac’s is actually located at 8178 Highway 90 in Sneads. In addition, you can hit other attractions when visiting Two Egg. Florida Caverns State Park, Falling Waters State Park, and the Seacrest Wolf Preserve are also all close by.
