Fort Myers Beach May Have Weekend Beach Closures – Will Decide Today

Miami started this when they closed their beaches over the Fourth Of July weekend. Fearful of the wave of Dade county residents (like what happened on Memorial Day), Collier County imposed weekend beach restrictions, closing the beach from 11a-5p Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Lee County commissioners voted to keep Lee County beaches open this weekend, prompting an emergency meeting of the Fort Myers Beach Town Council today at 1pm.

It’s really not a question of “if” Miami area residents will be coming to our coast this weekend. Many FMB hotels are already booked with guests with East Coast addresses. We’ll find out later today how Fort Myers Beach plans to handle it.
