Sunday Dinner Disaster: Man Arrested for Spaghetti Assault on Mom

Sunday dinner might be the most ridiculous reason to ever get arrested. Here we have a 41-year-old Florida man that got himself locked up over a plate of spaghetti. According to The Smoking Gun, Anthony Fiacco, decided to turn his dinner into a weapon, hurling his pasta at his 61-year-old mother during a heated argument. The spaghetti hit its target, leaving her with a head full of sauce.

Now, throwing food at your mom isn’t the smartest way to resolve a dispute. But Fiacco must’ve been really steamed. After the spaghetti assault, he took off, thinking he could outsmart the cops by hiding in the backyard behind a bush. Well, that plan didn’t last very long. The police caught up with him, adding resisting arrest to his list of stupid decisions he made that night. (In fact, if it were my mom, it would be a death wish.)

Sunday Dinner Assault:

So, what’s Fiacco facing now? He’s got a domestic battery charge for his creative use of Italian cuisine, and since he tried to bolt from the cops, he’s also looking at a charge for resisting an officer. No weapons were found at the scene, probably because the weapon in question had already been served with a side of garlic bread.

Fiacco’s run-ins with the law aren’t exactly new. It’s probrobly not the first time he’s ruined Sunday dinner for his mother. This guy has a history of causing trouble, including previous convictions for battery, trespassing, and even chucking a Heineken bottle through an apartment window. That last one got him hit with a charge for throwing a deadly missile, which sounds way more serious than it is. Either way, he wont get an invite to Sunday dinner anytime soon.

Fiacco stood before a judge, who told him to keep his distance from his mom. He can only go back home one more time to grab his stuff, and even then, he’ll have to be escorted by the police. Seems like he’s gonna have to find a new place for Sunday dinner… And maybe someone else to cook his spaghetti. His loss. Nobody makes spaghetti like mom.

Can You Guess Florida's Ideal Pasta Dinner?

A new study by Italian-based baby brand Chicco looked at online search interest in Florida for 1) types of pasta noodles 2) types of pasta sauces and 3) pasta dish sides over the past five years. From a whopping 54 pasta-related search terms, they determined the ideal pasta dinner in each state. Here’s what they found in Florida:

  • Florida’s favorite pasta dinner would start with a delicious bowl of capellini. Top that with marsala and serve with a side of bruschetta!
  • Overall, Americans’ favorite pasta noodle was macaroni. Their favorite pasta sauce was marinara. The favorite side was garlic bread.
  • The states with the most pasta lovers overall were New York (100), New Jersey (96.41), Massachusetts (95.11), Connecticut (88.79), Washington (85.89), Pennsylvania (84.72), the District of Columbia (83.51), Oregon (77.79), Colorado (75.50), California (75.11). This metric was measured on a scale of 0-100 for overall pasta search interest. The full study also provides context for the states that won most pasta-obsessed. many have historic Italian influence.

And now some help with that. Capellini is similar to angel hair pasta, angel hair is slightly thinner. Marsala is a type of sauce with wine. Bruschetta is thick slices of bread grilled, rubbed with garlic, drizzled with olive oil, often topped with tomatoes and herbs, and usually served as an appetizer. So if you made angel hair pasta, added a jar of Ragu, drank a bottle of wine, and had some garlic bread – you’d be pretty close.
