The Science Behind Why Cats Show You Their Butt
As annoying as it is, they actually mean well.
You know it’s happened to you. You go to pet your cat and they immediately turn around, tail in the air, showing you their backside. Well, according to cat researcher Mikel Delgado, from the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis, when cats do this, they’re actually trying to be nice.
Cats use butt sniffing as a greeting or a way to confirm identity. They use smell to recognize someone. So when they turn and lift their tail your cat may be saying “hey check me out”, or maybe just saying hello.
So, showing you their butt isn’t your cat being passive-aggressive. Placing a dead lizard in your shoe might be. More testing needed.
